What you need to prepare before the 25th…

The exam will cover the units of work we have previously studied this year in term 1, 2 and 3.

This includes:

  • Unit 1 Data Representation (Chapter 1 in the Coursebook)
    • remember, this unit includes things like Binary and Hexadecimal conversion as well as how images and text are stored on our computers. You need to know what parity bits are and the use of binary registers. Use this simple converter to help you practice.
  • Unit 2 Internet Technologies (Chapter 2 in the Coursebook)
    • This unit includes how the internet works. TCP/IP, HTTP, MAC Addresses, HTML, URLs and ISPs. Understand all these anacronyms as well as various ways we can check for errors when our bits are sent across networks (parity checks, ARQ checks, checksums, check digits)
  • Unit 7 Problem-Solving and Programming (Chapters 9, 10 and 11 in the Coursebook)
    • Being able to read and write pseudocode is very important here. Revise the syntax required for this using a useful guide here. You should also be able to trace through an algorithm (recap with a video here)
  • Unit 8 Databases (Chapter 13 in the Coursebook)
    • A pretty simple unit in comparison to the others. Try to revise data types and their uses. You should know things like queries and primary keys and be able to decide what the results of a specific query will be.
